Richard Buckner was a London born painter of portraits and genre subjects.

From 1820 to 1845 Buckner lived in Rome. He made the acquaintance of Frederick Lord Leighton whilst in Rome and he was inspired to exhibited Italian genre scenes during this period.

In about 1845, Buckner returned to London where he concentrated on painting portraits. He was very successful and was commissioned by the fashionable ladies of the time to paint their portraits.
