Biographical Details

Pierre Bourgogne was born in Paris in 1838.  He was a pupil of V Galland, Charles Polish and Lequien. From 1869 to 1904 Bourgogne exhibited at the Salon and was awarded an honourable mention in 1888 and a medal in1889. Bourgogne also exhibited at the Royal Academy in London in 1888.

Bourgogne painted flower still lifes and fruit still lifes and was highly successful during his lifetime. His Fleurs de Printemps was presented to the Emperor of China by the French Government in 1897.

Bourgogne also provided tapestry designs for the Beauvais factory. Many of his works were purchased for French Museums, for example:
