Hubert Bellis was born at Brussels in 1831. Bellis studied at the Brussels Academy of Art under Navez and then in the atelier of de Coene. Bellis’ paintings are full of sensual energy in their portrayal of flowers. He is considered a brilliant colourist and thorough technician.
