TENDING THE COWS

Biographical Details

Julien Dupre was one of the second generation of French Realist painters. His subjects were often humble - peasants tending farm animals and working in the fields. Dupre's paintings are somewhat influenced by Impressionism - in his loose brushwork - however, they also possess the superb draughtsmanship and attention to detail.

Dupre exhibited successfully at the Paris Salon from 1876 until 1881 and was successful in his lifetime. His works are sought after and critically acclaimed.

Dupre was awarded several medals including the Legion d'honneuir in 1892.
