Biographical Details |
Joseph-Athanase Aufray was a French painter specialising in subjects of children. After he finished his formal training with F. Barrias in Paris, he moved to Ecouen, where he lived and worked for most of his life. Between 1865 and 1876 he was a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon. A portrait of a young lady was the last painting he showed in 1885 at the Salon. His paintings were well sought after in France as well as in Germany, where he exhibited in Cologne in 1873. His charming pictures of children, generally at play, are highly prized and very collected. |
