Francois Lafon was the son and pupil of the portrait painter Emile-Jacques Lafon. Lafon also studied under Cabanel and proceeded from that atelier to make his debut at the Salon of 1875. Lafon painted delightful genre scenes, historical subjects, military subjects and portraits. From 1890, Lafon was member of the Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts and continued to exhibit at the Salon of that group throughout his life. Lafon was made a Chevalier de la Legion d’honneur.
