Alexis Kreyder was born at Anlau (Bas Rhin) on 21 October 1839. A pupil of Français, Laville, Zippelius and Fuchs, Kreyder exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1863 and at the Dijon Salon from 1892. Kreyder was also a member of the Societe des Artistes Francais and of the Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts. In 1867, 1884 and 1889, Kreyder was awarded medals of excellence for his work and in 1889 he was made a Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur.
